Working Together for Ward 2
June 16, 2023
A Message from Councillor Pat Warren
This is the first issue of my monthly updates to Ward 2 constituents.
Let's start by catching up. There have been many interesting happenings in Ward 2 and in Kawartha Lakes in the last 6 months.
Events
Representation
On Council, I took off running from day one, and represent you on many important committees and task forces.
Presently I am —
-
Chair of the JAC committee which oversees housing and human services in the municipality
-
Vice Chair of the Planning Committee
-
Vice Chair of the Community Policing Advisory Committee
-
Vice Chair of Kawartha Conservation
-
Vice Chair of the Waste Committee
-
member of the Bobcaygeon CHEST committee
-
council representative to the Environmental Advisory Committee, and
-
a task force member of the Active Transportation Task Force.
Special Interest
I was able to get Bobcaygeon's Canal Street work moved up into the 2024 Capital budget for deliberation, it was scheduled for 2025. Bobcaygeon Beach Park is shaping up to be better than ever. Look for the fountain to be operating soon, and some more amenities to come, stay tuned.
I still have Lock 32 swing bridge firmly fixed on my radar. It's owned by Trent Severn Waterway which is part of our federal government. While local government has no control over that, I continue to lobby for a fast resolution.
Other Issues
I have been very busy but it has been rewarding helping people resolve some
of their issues. If anyone has an issue, please register at
issues@kawarthalakes.ca — It helps me to resolve your concerns!
From the Farmers’ Markets to Music in the Parks, summer is going to be great!
Thanks,
Pat

We've probably seen each other around town. I've attended and supported many groups and activities including the new Bobcaygeon Library opening, Bobcaygeon FrostFest, the Boyd Museum New Years' Levee and 25th Anniversary, the Kinmount Economic Committee’s fundraiser, the Burnt River 40th Anniversary, welcoming Dr. Lesslie Ponraja to Kinmount, and supporting the Kinmount Farmers' Market fundraiser. I also attended the 20th Anniversary celebration for the LAB Theatre, and marked Earth Day by helping the Bobcaygeon Lions Club pick up trash. The Kick Off to Summer in Bobcaygeon was a real success and a lot of fun.

I was deeply committed to supporting the Save the Minden Hospital group. I was able to get a motion passed at council to support the efforts of Minden Hills in their fight to keep the Minden ER open. I attended three rallies in Minden, did a radio interview on CBC and personally donated money to the cause. Sadly, the ED has now closed but I will continue to be involved, helping achieve better health care for our region.
Council recently have been working on a Short-Term Rental Bylaw which will be rolling out soon.
I am personally happy for the support from council moving forward on a Source Separated Organics (greenbox) collection plan which will be rolled out by 2025. This move will help to end landfills in the future.
